Ecology/Biology/Outdoors Professional Experience

Historical Ecologist. Center for Research on Aquatic Bioinvasions. October 2010-January 2011. Conducted research on the state of pre-European contact native marine fauna of San Francisco Bay, in order to establish baseline data for present-day restoration programs. Work was in partial fulfillment of a grant given by the Marine Conservation Biology Institute.

Biological Field Lead. San Francisco Estuary Institute, Oakland, CA. March 2008-March 2010. Surveyed and eradicated the exotic oyster species Crassostrea gigas from San Francisco Bay. Managed interns.

Seabird Research Assistant. Alaska Maritime National Wildlife Refuge, Sitka, AK. June-September 2005, July 2006. Monitored nesting seabird populations including Leach’s and fork-tailed storm petrels, common and thick-billed murres, rhinoceros auklets, and pelagic cormorants. Collected phenological, production, and population data.

Assistant Wilderness Guide. Arctic Wild, Fairbanks Alaska. Summer 2005. Assisted in commercial hiking trip in the Alaskan Arctic, in the Utukok Uplands, NPRA.

Assistant Wilderness Guide. Steven Harper. Big Sur, CA. May, 2009. Assisted in five-day hiking workshop at the Esalen Institute.

Resident Caretaker. Goldmyer Hot Springs, Northwest Wilderness Programs, Seattle, WA. Spring 2006. Maintained and protected a 20-acre wilderness property including Goldmyer hot springs, trails, old growth forest, and hydroelectric power system. Managed on-site campground and hosted all visitors.
